There are a lot of versions of iDrive computers and it’s difficult to tell the difference for the regular BMW owner (also for the BMW specialists in some cases, do not think otherwise), hence this guide to help you.Īs people usually call the iDrive computer simply a ”navigation” we will also adhere to this custom for the remaining of this article, although the iDrive computer does much more besides the navigation function. Just keep in mind that they might refer to different components. This is not necessarily wrong, but it might create confusion when you read statements like ”my iDrive doesn’t turn on anymore” or ”my iDrive is spinning freely”. You can find the term iDrive used for the navigation computer in the dashboard, as well as for the iDrive controller between the two front seats.
